Akers Active Minds Program

The core activities that engage our little Active Minds at Akers Academy have evolved to contain the very best of early childhood education. Our program is constantly evolving to incorporate the newest approaches and philosophies to engage our children and shape learning in a new and exciting way.

Our active minds curriculum is as unique as our children. We offer programs that grow with your child through every stage of development from infants through kindergarten and beyond….

Our Amazing Infants
Your baby will always feel loved, safe and stimulated at Akers Academy! For your special little one, Akers Academy teachers provide a loving, nurturing, and stimulating atmosphere that encourages exploring and bonding to engage stimulation and curiosity. Your baby will build early language skills through playful songs, rhymes, conversation, imitation and stories. Recognizing voices and associating actions with sounds and movement are a significant part of early language development.

We adhere to the strict standards for safety and sanitation throughout the classroom and outdoor areas. Your baby’s happiness, safety, security and developmental growth are our primary goals. We love our babies!

Our Incredible Toddlers
What an exciting time for your little one to be exploring the world. We appreciate everyday the little milestones of crawling, climbing, pushing and pulling that we observe. It is truly magic for a child to grasp how their body and muscles are working together to accomplish amazing new things. Language is just beginning with sounds and coos to full words. Our teachers promote this discovery in a fun and constructive way by using puppets, yoga, language experiences, stories, art and discovery. Our Toddlers have a full curriculum of learning experiences.

Two Year Olds
Our two year olds are enthusiastic, vibrant “balls of energy”. They “NO” it all! They love to climb, explore and discover. Their language is rapidly expanding. To keep these energetic little ones learning we have a fast paced curriculum that keeps activities to 15 minute time frames. Children work in small groups and individually with their teachers. Our High Reach curriculum that combines Yoga, Sign Language and Spanish greatly enhances their self confidence and individual discovery.

Our Three Year Olds
Our three year olds are magical not only in their thinking but in the expansion of their cognitive, physical and emotional growth. During this time they are learning through sensory-motor activities and have a need for gross motor activities. Learning Center and outside play with social interaction are critical during this period. The Active Minds curriculum builds on these skills and expands their potential through play stations and learning activities. Children of this age have a full curriculum with more advanced skill levels. Focus is on individual play, small groups, large groups, stations and learning centers.

Pre-K 4
Four year olds are lively, inquisitive and adventurous. They ask more questions, show greater curiosity about their environment and are very interested in the printed word. Pre-reading skills are very important, as are writing, small muscle co-ordination, large muscle development, creative play, performance and storytelling. Our program directed by certified Georgia state teachers encompass all these learning skills. The children work in small and large groups, and have individual learning stations and discovery times. Programs that invite our parents into the school enhance this learning and increase self-esteem, language and performing arts.

Courageous Kindergarteners
They are curious, questioning, creative and ready for the challenges of reading, writing and beginning life’s adventure. They are secure within themselves and can be friendly and engaging to friends. Five year olds enjoy each other and group activities. Their creativity should be stimulated and their activities should combine a blend of large group, small group and individual time. Reading, Math, Science, Language Arts, Writing and large muscle co-ordination activities are all very important to their growth socially, emotionally and intellectually.

The McGraw-Hill Open Court curriculum programs play a strong part in building a foundation for academic success. This program develops young learners print awareness through read-aloud activities, phonetic awareness, decoding skills, comprehension activities, language arts and reading enhancements. Foreign language, computer skills and sign language are also key components that supplement our curriculum.

The Akers After School Program
The Active Minds After School Program is an important part of our day at Akers Academy as we welcome our current students and children from other institutions to the second beginning of our day. After a long day at school, our after-school program is set in a structured way to help de-stress from the day and enrich, stimulate and create a relaxing fun end to the day. Special events are planned for each day.
